How to use Pinterest for E-commerce?

Over the years, social channels have increasingly become visual in their approach. This holds true for the photo-sharing platform Pinterest. Considered as one of the largest social networks, Pinterest lays emphasis upon ‘interest graph’ and constitute of audiences who prefer to focus upon topics of interest instead of relationships. Unlike the other popular social channels such as Facebook and Twitter that are dependent on content from the network of friends and followers, Pinterest provides greater marketing potential using the visual medium in comparison to other social networking channels.

Reports suggest that Pinterest has been successful in driving more traffic to websites as compared to Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, YouTube. The report also stated that one in every five Pinterest users buy a product/item they have seen at the photo-sharing website which is nearly twice that of Facebook buyers.

Since the visitors referred from Pinterest have 10% higher chance to opt for a purchase, it’s a great place to create awareness about your products/services.

I have listed out some of the possible ways eCommerce businesses can successfully use Pinterest to their advantage.

• Create a business account for your company

• Choose an eye-catching image that helps the audiences identify your brand

• Create different boards that display the personality of your brand. You can also add pins to enhance the significance of every board

• Always use high-quality images

• Do not just display your product/brand. I would suggest showing what inspires your brand by creating boards for ideas, key people who are an integral part of your business.

• One of the easiest ways to ensure consumers share content related to your business on their boards is by adding a ‘Pin it’ button to the product images on site

• Consider embed Pinterest boards on company website

• Product-related pin known as ‘Rich pins’ encompassing information related to pricing, availability and where to purchase from is an effective tactic to garner interest and boost sales

• Leverage Pinterest Analytics to find out what works for your business

• To boost more pinning, promote your Pinterest account across social networks and in email newsletters

What would be the growth rate of e-commerce or online startups till 2020?

2016 turned out to be a hectic year for the Indian eCommerce players as the industry witnessed the entry of a number of new players. Although online retailers are expected to take at least five years to become profitable, the eCommerce industry has been successful in positioning itself as a viable business option in India.

A report by the Indian financial services unit of UBS Group AG stated that online retail sales could vary between $48 billion to $60 billion by 2020. Industry association ASSOCHAM has stated that the Indian eCommerce domain is expected to become worth $38 billion by this year, witnessing a 67% rise over the $23 billion revenues seen last year. These impressive numbers are compelling me to think that digital commerce has established itself in India despite the recent closures and insufficient funding impacting the startup environment.

Currently, the e-commerce market is booming and expected to continue its pace but I am still doubtful due to a number of reasons. It is an open secret that India’s eCommerce sector is not making the profit as prominent eCommerce players like Zomato and Flipkart were recently devalued, sales are declining and many are cutting regional operations. Funding crunch is a major concern and making many biggies suffer.

I strongly believe that India’s eCommerce sector is maturing but only time will tell how things will shape up in the near future.

The best marketing strategy in Indian e-commerce business

Nowadays, online retailers are needed to manage a lot of things on their own such as personalizing the shopping experience for users, improving the search functionality, optimization of the website structure, etc. When you are keen on making your online store profitable, it is key to get rid of all those things that can cost a business heavily. In this post, I will be pointing out few of the key pointers that the Indian retailers are not including in their marketing strategies to ensure the success of their e-commerce stores.

Focus-driven retention strategy

Many e-commerce business owners are spending heavily on social media marketing to bag more eyeballs. It has been seen that considerable monetary investments are being made by businesses on PPC ads for branding but fails to pay attention to client retention strategies.Personalized emails are effective for boosting client retention and increase their happiness

In-depth product descriptions

The absence of improper product information drives away prospects. Never choose to display mediocre images and share only a few technical specifications as a good product copy can greatly affect the sales. Moreover, this is one of the best ways to successfully describe the product and offer a virtual experience. A product description should follow a persuasive tone to drive the sales figure. Well-developed product descriptions help in lead conversion and lure more people to the website. Good product descriptions help in ranking and bolster boost product visibility across search engines.

Effective use of email nurturing

Many e-commerce store owners choose to bombard the consumers with emails the moment they opt for email subscription with the aim to sell their product. They are unable to understand that not all the time subscribers or audiences visit an online store to make a purchase. Sometimes, they are just researching about a specific product. Hence, e-commerce stores should not aim to sell and rather target the consumers based on their intent without looking too sales-focused.

Open to experiment

If an e-commerce store owner lacks the zeal to experiment, there are chances he/she is losing out on what the audiences want. Implementing a program that has been successful with other online stores can’t guarantee success for other e-commerce stores as well. The key is customization in accordance to the site and consumers. Also, measure the results of your campaign to maximize the impact. If you are committing these mistakes, rectify them at the earliest so that your bottom line is not negatively impacted.

Magical Allure of The “Taj Mahal”

If one has a heart that beats and that beat throbs to seek, the purity of love in galore!

The world changes India as ‘Incredible India’ and holds at high esteem for its holy, pure and aesthetic culture.Talking about Taj Mahal, a perfect epitome of place with majestic architectural monuments, an amalgamation of  sparkling tombs and mausoleums constructed during the era of Mughal Empire and located on banks of river Yamuna.

The Taj is one of the seven wonders of the world and UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

How can I describe The Taj Mahal? You can’t its impossible. You just have to experience it.

I visited the Taj Mahal so many times along with friends and family. Let me share my first visit experience with you.

There were security checks at the entrance and already a long queue of tourists by the time we got there. However, once we got past the gates, it was like being transported into a different era. We were surrounded by lush green gardens and magnificent Mughal architecture. Even the air seemed majestic. We quickly made our way through the east gate, and lo and behold, the Taj was there in all its glory and splendour.

It was simply breath-taking and the structure looked divine with its white marble gleaming against the clear blue sky. It literally took our breath away and each one of us was engulfed in our own thoughts for a while. Slowly, as if waking up from a slumber, we began the touristy ritual of taking photographs from all angles.12795339_468852453306367_6453025408356850492_n.jpg

Moving ahead, we found ourselves at the end of yet another queue. People were lined up to get their photos taken on the famous Princess Diana bench. Even though it was next to impossible to have your picture taken without anyone else in the background, we persisted but to no avail.

After visiting the Taj Mahal, we moved on to the mosque adjacent to it, which is open only for Friday prayers. This mosque is made of red sandstone and has a similar design to the Jama Masjid in Delhi. Interestingly, another building – a replica of the mosque – was constructed on the east side just to balance the overall symmetry of the architecture. This building houses a guest house and is called the Jawab, meaning ‘response’ since its purpose is to harmonize the scenery.

The grace of perfection of proportions and grandeur of geometrical patterns of well-appointed gardens enhancing the poise of the whole complex together add magnificence to the delicacy of this romance of love, dedication, and purity, ‘The Taj’!

Fly High in the Sky

Airplane travel is nature’s way of making you look like your passport photo.

Going through all those security checks, getting the boarding pass, bagging the window seat, the impatience while waiting right from boarding the flight to takeoff and landing, the awesome view of flying through the clouds

Inside the airport

Firstly the plane went on the runway until the opposite end and all the while I was feeling as if I am sitting in a bus. But finally, it took an about-turn and the speed increased exponentially. Within a few seconds, we were high, up in the sky. The view was breath-taking. The roads seemed like bright lighted lines, the houses and cars seemed like toys. The actual city looked like a toy model of a city. My ears were humming initially when the plane increased the height, but later on, everything was fine.

Delhi View from Airplane

Of course, I was excited to experience it; to fly above the cloud is as amazing as it is. When I saw cloud from above it seemed like Antarctica, truly amazing! I felt like walking on it while I knew I can’t.

  • After seeing this view I have an urge to look at the Earth from the space I hope I get a chance one day!
  • The feeling of “ME” vanishes and the “EGO” dissolves. From 33000 feet we are not even equivalent to a speck of dust. So even at this great height I was grounded to the Earth
  • It felt flying like a bird in the sky. I want to try sky-diving now!

Almost being high! Fell in love with that feeling right away!

Vagator Beach-An Aesthetic Sunset View

Vagator Beach is the northernmost beach of Bardez Taluka, Goa. It is located on the opposite bank of the Chapora River from Morjim in Pernem. Vagator is located approximately a one hour drive from the Dabolim Airport. The nearest railway station is at Thivim. Vagator is at a distance of 9 km from Mapusa, and 22 km far from the state capital Panaji. There are frequent buses to Panaji and Mapusa from Vagator.

Vagator Beach is split into two main beaches by a seaside headland which holds the car parking and lots of stalls selling trinkets, clothes, soft drinks and snacks. As you face the sea, on your right is North Vagator Beach (Big Vagator) and on your left Ozran Beach, more commonly known as Little Vagator Beach.  The secluded and incredibly beautiful beach is the “Little Vagator” and is a short walk away from Big Vagator.

At Little Vagator, down a steep path, is the stone sculpture of Shiva (an artwork of anonymous sculptor from the hippie era.)

Night View: Shiv Rock

A steep path leads down to the sands where is located the sculpted face of Shiva on a rock. Locals believe that the Shiva’s face was sculpted by a dedicated devotee of Lord Shiva who was incidentally a foreign tourist. This particular hippie wanted to build a small temple to Lord Shiva, but local egoistic hindrances did not encourage this tourist and hence during his long stay over a couple of trips thus happened the wonderful work of art bang on the sea rock. The sculpted Shiva face is not visible and goes hidden under the waves during high tides.

What’s best for your startup?IOS or Android App.

Launching and running your own company/business is not just tough but also complex at the same time. Many of the first time business owners end up questioning their own decision to take the entrepreneurial leap of faith. It is suggested that successful functioning of a startup business is quite similar to riding a roller coaster, which is bumpy with many highs and lows. The ability to impress the audiences to bag business stands at the core of every startup.

Nowadays, the modern-day consumer is always connected. Thanks to the growing use of mobile devices, constant access to information and instant gratification have assumed importance. Nearly a decade back, the online shopping activity was only limited to few hours but the pervasive connectivity has pushed consumers to make online purchases anytime, anywhere. So, the point that I am trying to make is consumers prefer to associate with those businesses that enjoy an active online presence.

Since businesses want to stand out amidst tough competition and aim to offer only the ‘best’, most of them focus upon developing apps that are built to deliver efficient shopping experience. Reports suggest that retailers prefer to opt for Android apps as compared to iOS as it sees a higher number of app downloads and users.

Now, the big question which deserves attention – Is it possible for a startup to launch its business using an Android App? Yes, it is achievable. Since most startups function on a shoe-string budget, affordability assumes great relevance for them.

Market experts are of the belief that Android dominance is growing at a quick pace due to its affordability

  • Customisation

Android stands out as it allows businesses to decide their own level of customisation (live wallpapers, alternative keyboards, custom ROM installs etc) as compared to Apple that maintains control of default apps with the aim to offer a homogenous software and hardware experience.

As consumers want flexibility, it has become key for businesses to offer what the audiences want.

  • Widgets

Android Widgets stand high on efficiency in comparison to the static rows of icons available in iOS.

A recent study reveals that consumers want the ability to see all relevant information at a glance on the home screen, which can only be offered in an Android app.

  • Multi-tasking

The level of multi-tasking offered by Android devices is incomparable to the iOS. While Apple devices allow switching apps back and forth, it has been observed that Samsung is way more efficient when it comes to viewing different apps at once such as the multi-window navigation.

  • Google Integration

There’s no hiding the fact that Android devices enjoy seamless integration with the Google services – Google Docs, Google Drive, Google Maps, Google+, Google Chrome as compared to Apple and iOS.

The Android world is moving at a fast pace. Yes, it has witnessed encountered multiple loopholes – bugs, slow development, lag, poor user interface, the absence of apps. However, its weaknesses were successfully dealt and currently, it enjoys an edge over iOS. The best thing about Android is the innovation– it adopted the NFC first, retina scanners, fingerprint readers, mobile payments.

So, according to me, a startup should prefer Android over iOS. The possibilities are endless with Android.

How genuine are the reviews on Amazon and Flipkart?

I strongly believe that the popularity of the Commerce platforms is responsible for driving the online sales. And one of the reasons for this rising popularity is the growing availability of online reviews and feedback posted by the existing customers, which help the prospective clients to take informed decisions. From the service provider’s perspective, online reviews are great and serve multiple purposes as it is quick, instantaneous in nature and can be quickly accessed apart from boosting revenue level.

It is understandable that clients want to opt for services that offer the highest ratings. In fact, research proves that customers spend a considerable amount of time to read online reviews before they opt for making the purchasing decision because they want to ensure that they have selected the right platform. I have personally come across that customers usually look for large feedback platforms and client-centric websites, which provide objective, true or authentic opinions.

Despite the growing preference for online customer reviews, many times reviews are manipulated or false ratings are given for varied reasons such as defaming businesses, boost sales, lure clientele and more. Hence, authentic reviews are necessary for customers and businesses both.I feel that approximately 40% of the reviews are genuine and rest 60% are manipulated for varied reasons such as to defame businesses/brands, boost sales, lure clientele, etc.

What are Shopify.com’s biggest weaknesses?

No eCommerce solution is likely to be perfect, Shopify has been able to build user trust in the shortest possible time. Despite being a recognised name in the eCommerce domain, few flaws are making businesses not to opt for this platform.

There is no denying that Shopify has been helping businesses achieve their targets, one of the key problems is the limited focus as an eCommerce solution provider. Another issue businesses witness with Shopify is the complicated programming language it uses.

Few of the disadvantages of Shopify are as follows –

  • Intricate technical initial setup

The initial setup process for an online store requires users to have good technical understanding mainly when it is about getting your domain name correctly redirected.

  • Rising costs

Similar to most hosted eCommerce platforms, Shopify is costly as compared to the self-hosted stores that can run and function all by themselves. If you have a small shop and enjoy technical know-how, Shopify is not suitable for you.

  • Rigid migration

One of the biggest issue with Shopify is the rigid migration rule it follows. Once you have started using Shopify and keen to migrate to some other platform at a later stage, you will be needed to proceed through a tough and time-consuming migration process.

  • Less customisation scope

Since Shopify leverages a unique setup while customising the themes, which makes them different from the stores designed using PHP. It Hence, Shopify is not the best option for those users who are eyeing for customised features.

How are all eCommerce sites running despite providing almost same service to a customer like Jabong, Myntra, Yebhi etc?

On an everyday basis, the consumer’s experience with an online marketplace is increasingly becoming more social, mobile and visual in its approach, which to an extent is helping the eCommerce players to improve the process and make necessary implementations that help an online business to grow and preferred by consumers.

According to me, the success of an eCommerce platform is dependent on multiple factors – products and services offered, ease to navigate website, optimisation of the online store in accordance to SEO, use of social media marketing, etc. This is also one of the major reasons why companies planning to launch their online store should engage with a website development firm that is aware of the latest trends in the world of web.

Features are incorporated in an eCommerce platform based on the feedback received from the consumers. Understanding your clients will surely help an online platform sell more. The more a business is able to know about the preferences of the customers and their requirements, it becomes easier to find relevant opportunities to sell them new products and ensure better targeting.

I would say that profiling is capable of helping clients to tap new customers. It helps identify similar prospective clients and sell them. In a way, it will also bring improvement in client servicing, enjoy better access to information, customise product offering and provide tailored treatment.
